EPS(Expandable Polystyrene) is a lightweight, rigid, plastic foam insulation material produced from solid particles of polystyrene. Expandsion is achieved by virtue of small amounts of pentane gas dissolved into the polystyrene base material during production. The gas expands under the action of heat, applied as steam, to form perfectly clesed cells of EPS.

EPS Main features and design points

1) Light weight, and has a certain compressive and tensile strength, can support the coating protective layer by its own strength, do not need to pull the connector, can avoid the formation of thermal bridge.

2) The thermal conductivity of EPS board is the smallest in the density range of 30~50 kg/m; When the average temperature is 10℃ and the density is 20kg/m, the thermal conductivity is 0. 033~0. 036W/(m·K). When the density is less than 15 kg/m, the thermal conductivity increases sharply with the decrease of the density. EPS board with a density of 15~22 kg/m is suitable for external insulation.

3) When used for external wall and roof insulation, it generally does not produce obvious moisture problems. However, when one side of the EPS board is in a high temperature and high humidity environment for a long time, the other side is in a low temperature environment and is closed by a material with poor water vapor permeability; Or when the roof waterproof layer fails, the EPS board may be seriously damp, resulting in a serious reduction in its thermal insulation performance.

4) When used for cold storage, air conditioning and other low temperature pipe insulation, a steam insulation layer must be set on the outer surface of the EPS board.

2. Storage:

The EPS series products need to be put on the place where it is cool and ventilated, keep the storage temperature below 20°C in order to minimize the lost of frothing agents from escaping. The lower the temperature is, the better the quality is. The products should avoid rain, fog, snow and lighting up from the sun, static electricity and flame. Once the package material of the products is open, it should be used up as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the remaining EPS might lose its function due to escaping of foaming agents. If the EPS is stored too long, the expandable times might decrease.

3. Transportation:

During transportation, the product should not be exposed to strong sunlight or rain and should not be transported together with sand, soil, scrap metal, coal or glass. Transportation together with toxic, corrosive and flammable substance is strictly prohibited.
